Nor’wester lashes Barisal

A speedy norwester lashes Barisal city and diferrent parts of the region on Thursday afternoon causing disrupption of power and water supply, telecommunication for hours and damaging makeshift houses, slums, trees in the affected areas. Milon Haoladar, senior observer at Barisal met office said the nor’wester hit the region at 3:20 pm and continued till 4:20 pm with gusty wind-speed of 70-100 kilometers per hour and 40 milimeter downpour recorded within this time. Falling trees on different power supply and telephone lines caused disruption of electrity and water supply and telecommunication connectivity at diffrent part of the city for several hours till Thursday night. Damages of tin-shed structures, makeshift houses , shanties and slums were caused by the storm at Anasar office, police line, Kashipur, Lakutia, Rupatali, B M College areas in the city, said district relief and rehabilitation officer.
9 Jamaat leaders , activists held in Bakerganj
Police arrested 9 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh from Bakerganj municipal area under Barisal district on Friday. The arrestees were Nuruzzaman, municipal secretary, Abul Bashar, Nesaruddin, Shamim Ahmed, Hafez Md. Shahidullah, Jahangir Hossain, Mozammel Huq, Abul Kalam, Abu Hanif, leaders and activists of Jamaat in Bakerganj municipal area. Inspector Masum Talukdar , Bakerganj police station officer in charge, claimed the JI activists were arrested while they were holding ‘conspiracy meeting for sabotage’ in the house of Abu Hanif at Runsi area under ward 1 of Bakerganj municipality. Books and propagation items of Jamaat also recovered from that house and the arrestees would be sent to court as accused in different cases of political violence, the police official said.
Child drowns in Kurigram

One child was drowned in a pond at Phulbari upazila in Kurigram district at noon on Friday. The deceased was identified as Rabeya 4 daughter of Dulu Miah of village Naodabas under the upazila. Family sources said, when the child was tried to catch a duck in a pond adjacent of her house and was drowned. Being informed her elder sister searched but in vain. At last her dead body was found after two hours. A pathetic shock was prevailing in the area following the incident.
Jhenidah village clash leaves 35 injured

At least 35 persons including five women were injured in a village clash at Anipur village under Sailkupa upazila in Jhenidah on Friday. The clash continued for five hours on the day. Locals and police said, there was a long been conflict between Mantu Khan and Uzzal Hossain following social supremacy. Following the enmity, both the groups appeared in the fierce clash at about 7.00 in the morning that had continued till 12.00 PM. At the time 35 persons including five women received injured. The injured were admitted to Sailkupa local health complex, Jhenidah sadar hospital and Kushtia Medical College and Hospital. They had used Dhal, Falla, Raaaaamda, Ballam and other leathal and sharp weapons during the clash. Additional police men were deployed to maintain law and order. No case was filed till Friday afternoon, officer in charge (OC) Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury of Sailkupa police station said.
Body recovered in Sylhet

Police in the Sylhet city found the body of a Young man from Mokamergul in Shahporan area. OC Sakhawat Hossain of Shahporan Police Station said, on information, recovered the body of Abdul Aziz (26), Son of Abdul Jalil of the area. The victim was married off to Mokamerguol, at least five months back.
