Images of deities damaged in temple in Fakirhat

Images of deities of Shitala temple of Kathaltalar Mor in Fakirhat bazar under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district were allegedly broken by some one or more miscreants in a broad daylight on Saturday. Being informed of the matter Gautam Kumar Biswas, Additional Police Super of Bagerhat, Md. Bazlur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of Fakirhat PS. Shaikh Mizanur Rahman, Vice-chairman of Fakirhat Upazila Parishad and a member of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Awami League and Shirina Aktar Kislu, Chairman of Fakirhat Sadar Union and Secretary General of Fakirhat Upazila unit of Bangladesh Awami League visited the place of occurrence. Md. Bazlur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of Fakirhat PS said, stern steps will be taken against the alleged miscreants after completing a proper investigation into the matter.
Newly married wife commits suicide in Sharankhola
Tamanna Aktar (18), daughter of one Zakir Hossain of village Uttar Tafalbari under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district and a student of first year Alim class of Rayenda Hedayetulum Nesaria Madrsa under Sharankhloa Upazila who was married with Raju (30).son of one Moniruzzaman of village Khontakata under the same Upazila only 8 days ago committed suicide by hanging herself with a beam of a bed room in her father’s residence on Saturday and when it was noticed she was rushed to Sharankhola Upazila Health Complex where the doctors on duty declared her dead. But the reasons behind putting the end of her life in such a drastic way.
RU cultural activists demand cancellation of Rampal Power plant

Cultural activists of Rajshahi University on Sunday performed pantomime and music in protest of the government’s decision to set up a coal-based power station at Rampal near the Sundarbans and protesting against the militant attacks across the country. As a part of their month-long programmes, they brought a protest procession on the campus around 12pm on Sunday and joined at short rally at the university main gate where they observed sit-in programme and performed various protest songs and poetry. Addressing the rally, Abdul Majid Antor, President , RU Sangskritik Jote, a platform of ten cultural organisations of Rajshahi University, said that the government was trying to destroy the natural beauty of Sunderbans, the world’s biggest mangrove forest, by setting up the thermal power plant.
3 auto-rickshaw lifters arrested in B’baria
BRAHMMANBARIA: Police arrested three auto-rickshaw lifters from Bijoynagar area of the district on Saturday night. Auto-rickshaw lifters stabbed auto-rickshaw driver Sujan Miah,24, and injured him critically. Later, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. Arrested auto-rickshaw lifters are Janto Miah, 24, Mazharul,18 and Enayet Bhuiyan, 26. Police said arrested persons rented an auto-rickshaw to go to Chunpur from Champok-Nagar. When the auto-rickshaw reached at Ganashampur Bridge, lifters stabbed auto-rickshaw driver Sujan Miah and made an attempt to snatch the auto-rickshaw. The auto-rickshaw driver Sujan Miah raised alarm and local people came forward and detained the lifters. The local people handed them over to police, reports BSS.
