Police arrested an alleged drug peddler with 50 pieces of yaba tablets from Upashahar Khajura bus stand area in Jessore town on Thursday night. The arrested was identified as Farid Hossen, 40, from the said area.Upashahar police camp assistant sub inspector (ASI) Shahabur Rahman said, on secret information a team of police raided the area on Thursday night at around 8.30 pm, arrested Farid and recovered 50 pieces of yaba tablets from his possession.A case was filed in Jessore Kotwali Model Thana in this connection.
Housewife commits suicide in Panchagarh
PANCHAGARH :A housewife allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at Menagram village under Boda upazila of the district early yesterday morning.The victim was identified as Mina Banerjee, 26, wife of Sanjoy Banerjee of the village.The cause of suicide could not be known immediately.Being informed, Boda thana police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for post mortem.An unnatural death (UD) case was filed with Boda thana in this connection, reports BSS .
Drug trader held with 2,200 Yaba in Narail
NARAIL: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police arrested a drug trader with 2,200 pieces of Yaba tablets from Shamuk Khola village under Lohagara upazila of the district on Thursday night.The arrested person was identified as Mofizul Islam, 30, son of Abdul Salam Moral resident of Bakra village under Assasuni upazila of Satkhira district.Lohagara thana police said receiving secret information, a team of RAB led by special commander Mohammad Enayet Hossain Mannan raided the house of one Manik Kazi and arrested Mofizul from there.The RAB members also recovered 2,200 pieces of Yaba tablets from his possession.A case was filed with Lohagara thana in this onnection.Madan Mohon, ASI of Lohagara Police Station confirmed the incident, reports BSS.
2 held with Yaba, heroin in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ : Police arrested two alleged illegal drug-trader with 40 pieces of yaba tablets and 3 grams of heroin from Chapainawabganj sadar and Gomastapur upazilas on Thursday.The detained persons were identified as Ruhul, 40, son of late Solaiman of Barorashia village under Islampur union of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila and Imam, 20, son of late Zohurul Islam of Nadirabad village under Gomastapur upazila of the district.Police said, as part of the district wide anti-drug drives police of the Chapainawabganj sadar and Gomastapur upazilas raided the aforesaid two areas and arrested them with the drugs.Later, two separate cases were recorded with the police stations concerned in this connection, reports BSS
National Mourning Day programmes taken in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI : The district administration here has finalized programmes to observe the National Mourning Day and 41st anniversary of martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15.The programmes were finalised at a preparatory meeting held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office yesterday, in line with the national programmes, after elaborate discussions with Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin in the chair.Senior Awami League (AL) leaders, heads of different govt. non-government departments and educational institutions, freedom fighters (FF), professionals, socio- cultural activists, local elite and lawyers took part in the meeting.SP Moazzem Hossain Bhiuyan, Chief Executive Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation Syeda Zebinnissa Sultana, Civil Surgeon Dr Ferdous Nilufar, ADC (Gen) Fazley Rabbi, ADC (Revenue) Ataul Gani, AL leaders Nawsher Ali, Advocate Matiur Rahman and Meer Iqbal, Freedom Fighters Commander Dr Abdul Mannan and Deputy Director of Department of Mass Communication Md Shamsuzzaman addressed the meeting, among others, reports BSS.
