Dr Umme Salma Gold Medal Trust Fund has been established at the Department of Urdu of Dhaka University (DU).
Dr Anis Malek, son of late Professor Dr Umme Salma, on Monday handed over a cheque for Taka 5 lakh to DU Treasurer Professor Dr M Kamal Uddin at the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A A M S Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr M Akhtaruzzaman and Chairman of the Department of Urdu Dr M Golam Rabbani were present on the occasion.
Every year a meritorious student, who will secure the first position in the Honors Final Examination of the Department of Urdu, will be awarded Dr Umme Salma Gold Medal.
Arefin Siddique thanked for setting up this Trust Fund, and hoped students would be benefited and encouraged by this donation.
Late Professor Dr Umme Salma was teacher of the Department of Urdu. She was born in 1947 and died in 2008. She was the wife of late Professor Dr M Abdul Malek, a former Professor of Dhaka Medical College (DMC).
