A report on the eighth pay scale for public servants along with the recommendations has been approved in the cabinet. The report on new pay scale made by a secretary-level committee was approved at a cabinet meeting held with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Secretariat on Monday noon. It is likely to be passed in the National Parliament in the upcoming session. The three-page summary of the new pay scale hike includes provisions of time scale and selection grade for the 2.1 million public servants. The summary of the new pay was prepared by Finance Secretary Mahbub Ahmed. The secretary-level committee submitted its updated report to the finance minister on May 13. The government last year formed the 8th National Pay and Services Commission headed by Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Farashuddin. And a secretary-level committee was formed to review the recommendations of the pay commission in last January. Under the proposal, the lowest grade’s basic salary would increase 100% to become Tk 8,250 from Tk 4,100. The main salary of the highest grade would also be doubled to become Tk 78,000. — risingbd.com
