New law likely to punish civil servants on late service

The government has taken a move to formulate a law on civil servants keeping punitive options for fining to those who make late in providing services, said a high official.
“Fine will be imposed on civil servants not to give services on time to the people,” said Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Shafiul Alam.
He was inaugurating a workshop on banking and share market at the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market auditorium yesterday. Bank and Financial Institutions Division organised the event.
The cabinet secretary said there is a law in India that if the officials are fined if they failed to issue driving licence on time to eligible applicants.
He said the Assistant Commissioner (land) of Kurigram has started such an initiative in which public officials are fined for delaying the delivery of service. Shafiul Alam said: “Now we are observing the process there.”
“If it appears useful, we will draft a law.” he added.
At the workshop, the Bank Division presented an app on settlement of 60,000 pending cases.
In its report, Bangladesh Bank said it will give dividends on savings instrument and inward remittance to the client bank accounts.
Janata Bank also presented new app on disbursing agricultural loans to grassroots level farmers.
