Chattogram Bureau :
A new jail will be constructed in Chattogram very shortly due to accommodation crisis at present central jail of Chattogram. Deputy Inspector General of Prison, Partha Gopal Banik disclosed the government decision in connection to media on Saturday after meeting with the Secretary of the Ministry of Home(service division) Md. Fariduddin Ahmed Chowdhury in the port city.
The home secretary also exchanged views with the district administration ,Passport Department, Jail Authority, Fire services and Narcotics Control Department and District and Metro Police at Chattogram Circuit House Auditorium Authority on Saturday.
DIG(Prison) in the meeting disclosed that the accommodation capacity of Chatttogram jail for 1,853 prisoner whereas more than 8 thousand prisoners are being accommodated now. He further apprised that Jail authority is looking after suitable land within the outskirts of the port city for the purpose.
