BSS, Rajshahi :
The west zone of Bangladesh Railway will put a comfortable and high-speed intercity train on Rajshahi-Dhaka route from tomorrow.
General Manager of the zone Khairul Alam told the local journalists that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to introduce the red-green coloured train services formally Saturday. The train will be adjudged as a special attraction to carry the Eid-passengers.
He said all preparations are being taken for launching the new intercity train having 13 coaches including air-conditioned ones.
At present, three intercity trains, Dhumketu, Silk city and Padma, are running on the route.
The new train having two air-conditioned chair coaches and two sleeping cabins will take maximum four hours to reach Dhaka from here. Renovated rail tracks will reduce the journey time by at least two hours.
For the first time in the country, special ladder and toilet were added in the train for the people with special needs.
There are various privileges in the train like modern seat arrangement, improved toilet, air-conditioned special cabins and all bogies will have fire extinguishing canisters.
Khairul Islam said 120 from India and 50 luxurious bogies from Indonesia were procured to make the rail modern and popular. With the introduction of this service standard of passenger transport will be enhanced and transportation problems will be solved, he hoped.
Ahead of the forthcoming Eid-Ul Fitre, more than 3000 passengers will be transported by the train in each trip. New journey of modernization in the rail sector will begin with the commissioning of the train, he added.
