Staff Reporter :Finally the government has decided to form a new independent commission within a month for recruiting teachers for all non-government educational institutions across the country. The commission will be set up with a view to aiming to stop irregularities in teachers’ recruitment process.The Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid disclosed it to the reporters in the Secretariat on Wednesday. “The commission named ‘Non-government Teachers Selection Commission (NTSC)’ will be formed in a month, which will be similar to the Public Service Commission (PSC), to bring transparency in the teachers’ recruitment process,” Nurul Islam Nahid said. “There are many allegations about the existing process of the teachers’ recruitment. The new commission will appoint meritorious and eligible candidates only as teachers in non-governmental primary schools, ebtadayee madrasa, secondary schools and colleges all over the country,” the minister said. The Non-government Teachers Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) will be dissolved after the formation of the new commission, he said. “In the present recruitment process, teachers are appointed by respective governing bodies of educational institutions which are involved with various irregularities, including financial transaction. The government has decided to form the new commission to bring transparency in the teacher recruitment process,” Nahid said.The new commission will gather information from the district education officers about the necessity of recruitment and issue circulars to send those to upazila, thanas, districts and divisions every year, he added.Nahid said that merit lists would be published at thana level. The NTSC would select teachers through tests, while the governing body will issue the appointment letters only.Nahid also said about 40,000 posts of teachers currently remain vacant in the non-governmental educational institutions across the country.
