Four years into its term, the government is set to add new faces to the cabinet amid speculations over a shuffle on Tuesday.
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayon Chandra Chanda said he was invited to the president’s office, the Bangabhaban, suggesting he would be sworn in as a minister.
Lawmakers Kazi Keramat Ali and AKM Shajahan Kamal have also confirmed receiving the cabinet secretary’s invitations by phone.
All of them have told bdnews24.com that the oath-taking ceremony is set to take place Tuesday evening.
The Cabinet Division has also called IT entrepreneur Mustafa Jabbar. The fisheries and livestock portfolio fell vacant after the death of Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque in mid-December. Chanda is likely to succeed Hoque.
Jabbar, the president of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services or BASIS, will be made a technocrat minister as he is not a lawmaker.
Chanda, the MP from Khulna-5, told bdnews24.com, “The cabinet secretary asked me to be at the president’s office Tuesday evening.”
Kazi Keramat Ali, elected from Rajbari-1, said: “I have been asked to be at the Bangabhaban.”
Laxmipur-3 AKM Shajahan Kamal confirmed that he was also invited to the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for 6pm.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam did not provide details on the cabinet expansion, but said: “You will get to know when it happens.”
