A new Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board named Mymensingh Education Board will be set up soon to strengthen the education system in newly formed Mymensingh Division, the Education Ministry sources said.
There are eight general education boards, one madrasa and one technical. It will be the 11th Education Board.
The ministry also formed a seven-member committee recently in this regard and asked the committee to submit its report to the Ministry within 15 days.
President of of Inter-Education Board Coordination Sub-Committee and Chairman of Dhaka Education Board Professor Mahbubur Rahman told The New Nation on Tuesday that the government took the preliminary decision to establish an Education Board in Mymensingh Division. The Education Ministry has also been working to make the plan a success.
The Mymensingh Education Board may start its function in line with the Government Education Directive-2009. The Education Ministry will send the proposal of the new board to the Cabinet after getting the report from the Ministerial Committee. If the Cabinet approves the proposal, the Board may start
its functions from 2018, the ministry sources said. Dhaka Education Board will provide all the facilities required for a Board. It also requested Mymensingh District Administration to select and acquire land for the new board. The work to select and acquire land has started.
The Dhaka Education Board sources said, one lakh students took part in the Secondary School Certificate Examination under Chittagong Board this year, 71,000 under Barisal Board, 74, 000 under Sylhet Board and 1,31,000 under Jessore Board. A total of 1,32,000 students sat for the SSC examination from the greater Mymensingh region.
The number of students in Junior School Certificate Examination is also higher than other Education Boards. That is why the people of the region have been raising their voice to establish an Education Board in greater Mymensingh area. To fulfill the demand of the people, the Education Ministry finally is going to set up the board.
It may be mentioned that the government on October 13 last year declared Mymensingh as a division with four districts- Mymensingh, Netrakona, Jamalpur and Sherpur.
