New border haat would be set up along Bangladesh’s Rangamati and India’s Mizoram frontier to boost local business and trade between the two countries, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said on Monday.
The minister agreed to set up the new haat at the Sajek-Silsuri border when the Mizoram government placed the proposal during his visit to India between April 22 and April 25, according to a statement of the commerce ministry.
Bangladesh wants to sell ready-made garment items, construction materials, plastic and food items while Mizoram wants to sell the goods like stone chips, turmeric, ginger, pepper and famous bamboos of Mizoram state in the proposed border haat, it said.
The new border haat will enhance the bilateral trade relations between Mizoram and Bangladesh as the country shares 318 kilometres of border areas with the Indian state.
