New alliance launched to monitor elections

Bangladesh Election Monitoring Alliance (Bema), a common platform of 31 organisations, was launched on Sunday aiming to ensure transparent, free and fair elections in the country.
The organisation got approval from the Election Commission (EC), said a press release.
The Bema launching was disclosed during a meeting of the representatives of 31 organisations at the auditorium of Bangladesh Manabadhikar Bastabayan Shongstha, a rights body, where they presented their detail programmes before the upcoming national election.
Mostafa Sohel, Executive Director of Bangladesh Manabadhikar Bastabayan Shongstha will act as the Bema convener and executive director of SDUP, Mizanur Rahman as its secretary.
Ex-judge Tarik Haider, a retired additional secretary Pranab Chakrabarti, Advocate Sigma Huda, lyricist Syed Ashek Mahmud have been made Bema advisers.
