The death toll from trawler capsize in the Gumai River under Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona district rose to 11 with the recovery of two more bodies.
Many passengers are still missing.
Quoting locals police said the mechanised boat with 36 passengers on board was heading to Thakurakona of Netrakona Sadar upazila from Madhyanagar in Sunamganj. It sank after being hit by a sand-laden vessel coming from opposite direction around 11am.
Nine bodies were recovered soon after the incident.A divers’ team of Fire Service and Civil Defence is conducting their rescue operation.
The death toll may rise. Deputy commissioner Kazi Md Abdul Rahman and superintendent of Netrakona police Md Akber Ali Munshi visited the spot.
Kalmakanda UNO Sohel Rana confirmed the death of 11.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
