Local BNP on Friday called an eight-hour hartal in the district for today protesting the detention of its Sadar upazila (East) unit organising secretary M Omar Faruk allegedly by RAB members.
The shutdown call came in a press release signed by district BNP vice-president Saidul Islam Bhuiyan at noon.
The shutdown will remain in force from 6am till 2pm.
Victim’s wife Parveen Akhter alleged that RAB members picked up Omar Faruk, also chairman of Hazirpara Union Parishad,
from Katgar area under Patenga Police Station in Chittagong city early Wednesday.
A group of 6-7 people posing as Rab members picked Faruk and disappeared taking him on a vehicle with sticker of RAB-7, she said, adding that her husband remained traceless since then. Meanwhile, RAB-7 denied the allegation, saying they did not conduct any drive in Katgar.
