Netrakona farmers expect bumper Boro production

The flood-affected farmers are now seeing a hope of bumper Boro production as the government has undertaken an incentive package to help them for recouping losses caused by flash flooding during the last Boro season in the district.
After being inspired by the farmers-friendly programs of the government, the farmers of all ten Upazilas are now taking all out preparations to make massive Boro cultivation during the forthcoming season. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials said the government has already allocated Taka 13.65 crore for the 70,000 flood-hit Boro cultivators.
The selected farmers will get 350 tonnes improved quality Boro seeds, 1,400 tonnes of DAP fertilizers, 700 tonnes of MOP fertilizers at free of cost and Taka seven crore in cash, they said.
Talking to the BSS, deputy director of the DAE Bilash Chandra Paul said following instructions of the government, the district post flood agriculture rehabilitation implementation committee headed by deputy commissioner has already started rendering service for making the programs successful.
Apart from these, the crops specialists and field-level officials of the DAE have started services to let the cultivators know about the methods of achieving better outputs adopting latest technologies and reducing production costs, he said.
