An youth has been arrested for killing his aunt named Rokhsana (35) by slitting her throat at Harua (Gurudhayal College Road) in the town on Saturday noon.
The accused has been identified as Mamun, a painter.
Victim Rokhsana was the wife of a tea vendor Tajul Islam and daughter of Rashid Akand of Atkapara village of Tarail upazila in Kishoreganj district. She left two sons and one daughter.
At the time of the incident, the housewife was preparing to cook lunch. There was no one else in the room but the accused.
Received having information, Police rushed to the spot and arrested Mamun with a knife. The accused youth is the son of one Sohrab Uddin of Harua Classic Gully. He works as a painter.
Locals and Police sources said that accused Mamun was Tajul’s nephew. Mamun had a love affair with Rokhsana and locals also knew ot. Their relationship deteriorated for quite some time. It may have killed her.
Additional SP Md Nure Alam told The New Nation that there were various reports about the causes of the incident. Investigation has been started taking all the factors into account. Moreover, the detained Mamun will be interrogated. Then maybe everything will be known.
Kishoreganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Dawood said, the accused youth could not escape when the police surrounded the scene after receiving the information. He was arrested with a knife. He killed his aunt with that knife. The police have started investigating the whole incident.
The body was sent to Kishorganj general hospital morgue for autopsy.
