Nepal clinch Bangabandhu Gold Cup title

Nepal finally ended their 23 years title drought as they blanked Bahrain by 3-0 goals in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup final held on Friday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Nepal took the early lead in the very 5th minute as Biraj Maharjan cross in the left edge of the Bahrain box where Anjan Bista headed it towards to Bahrain goal. Bahrain custodian
Mahboob Aldoseri fisted the ball but unmarked Nepalese forward Bimal Gharti Magar pushed the ball into the net (1-0).
Bahrain also come close to restore the parity in the 24th minute, but Mohammed Alinar’s superb effort toward the left hand post of custodian Bikas Kuthu who pulled out a driving save.
After the resumption, Bahrain adopted a counter attack strategy to restore the parity but Nepal was not in mood to take Bahrain lightly. The Himalaya Kingdom missed a scoring chance in the 52nd minute, this time Bimal Gharti Magar superb footwork made the ball open for Nawayug Shrestha whose right footer chip fisted away over the crosspiece by Bahrain custodian Mahboob Aldoseri.
Bahrain was desperate to level the margin, but captain Abdulaziz Alshaikh fierce left footer from the vantage position was superbly saved by full diving Bikas Kuthu for a corner in the 55th minute.
Nepal again missed another scoring chance in the 62nd minute as Heman Gurung found the Bahrain goalie alone but puts his left footer wide from the middle of the box.
In the 82nd minute Bahrain midfielder Ahmed Althuani and Nepal forward Sumon Lama were sent off showing direct red card for their unsporting behavior on the ground.
Nepal increased the margin doubled in the 87th minute as Bishal Rai flicked the cut back of Anjan Bista into the middle of the net (2-0) while Nawayug Shrestha sealed the victory scoring the 3rd goal for Nepal in the 90th minute of the match (3-0). In the Injury time of the second half Bahrain skipper Abdulaziz Alsheikh was show red card following double yellow. Bimal Gharti Magar of Nepal was adjudged the player of the match while Nawayug Shrestha of the champion team was named the player of the tournament.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was the chief guest in the final and handed over the trophy of the tournament.
