Neo JMB regional chief among four killed in ‘gunfights’

At least four miscreants, including a regional commander of Neo-JMB, were killed in separate gunfights in Bogra, Brahmanbari and Bagerhat districts on Thursday.
The deceased are Amijul Islam alias Al Amin, 23, Bulbul Islam alias Builla, 35, and Nurul Islam Prokash Nuru, 45, and Billal alias Kana Billa, 33, law enforcers said.
In Bogra, a leader of the Rajshahi Region of the of Neo-JMB was killed in a gunfight with police in Sherpur upazila in the morning, said Sonaton Chakroborty, Additional Superintendent of Bogra police (Sadar circle and media).
The deceased, son of Durul Huda from Godagari upazila in Rajshahi, was the group’s commander of northern region, the police official said.
The gunfight ensued when a gang of militants tried to snatch Amijul from the Police in Bhobanipur union’s Jamnagar area around 4:00am. Amijul came in the line of fire and died, he said. A foreign-made pistol, two magazines and three bullets were recovered from the spot, the ASP said. In Brahmanbaria, Bulbul and Nuru in Bijoynagar upazila were killed in separate incidents of “gunfight” with police in Mirasani area in Nabinagaer upazila, Ali Arshad, Officer-in-Charge of Bijoynagar Police Station.
Bulbul was accused in five cases including robbery filed with Bijoynagar Police Station and Nuru was an enlisted drug dealer, the OC said.
A pipe gun, four bullets, four knives, three sharp weapons and 20kg hemp were recovered from the spot, the OC said.
In Bagerhat, Billal was killed in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the forest’s Sharonkhola range in the morning, said Major Adnan Kabir, Deputy director of RAB-8.
Bellal, was said to be the member of criminal gang ‘Shamsu Bahini’, he said.
Five firearms and 77 bullets were recovered from the scene, he said.
