Staff Reporter :
The National Human Rights Commission’s Inquiry Committee found the negligence with the Forensic Department of the Dhaka Medical College & Hospital (DMCH) for delaying to prepare the autopsy report of a patient Rawshan Ara whose good kidney was removed during a useless kidney operation.
This information was available after a meeting of the members of the DMCH Forensic Department with the National Human Rights Commission’s investigation committee on Thursday.
The forensic department claimed that the report was delayed due to lack of supervision by the law enforcers.
It also rejected the allegation of negligence saying that the report was delayed due to various reasons, including manpower crisis.
Rafiq Sikder, son of the late Rawshan Ara, filed a murder case with the Shahbagh Police Station on November 26, over the death of his mother whose two kidneys were removed instead of one.
The case was filed against four suspect doctors Urology Department Professor
Habibur Rahman Dulal, 55, Associate Professor Faruque Hossain, 48, and their colleagues Mostafa Kamal, 46, and Al Mamun, 33.
Victim son Rafiq Sikder alleged that on October 5, 2018, a patient named Rawshan Ara underwent kidney surgery at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and had her right kidney removed.
The autopsy of the deceased Rawshan Ara was also done on November 3 of the same year.
At the end of the post mortem of the victim, the head of the Forensic Department Sohail Mahmood said that no kidney was found in the body.
But the forensic department of DMCH delayed to submit the report.
At the press conference, the head of the investigation committee and the President of the National Kidney Foundation Prof. Harun ur Rashid said, “In the primary investigation, this incident also seemed to us unusual.”
He expressed regret and said that the patient died despite many attempts to save. We are sorry for this. Physicians should be more vigilant so that such unfortunate incidents never happen again.
However, we are looking into the matter.
Another member of the investigation committee and the head of the Urology Department of the Dhaka Medical College & Hospital (DMCH) Dr. Amanur Rasul said, “We were given the duty to inquire if the left kidney was removed.” We said, that was dropped.
At the same time, the professor admitted that the kidney on the right side was also removed.
Meanwhile the VC Prof Kanak Kanti Barua of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has said that we would take action against accused four doctors over the death of the female patient following the removal of her two kidneys, instead of one.
