Need for planting fruit- bearing trees emphasised

Speakers at a function here Sunday stressed the need for planting more fruit bearing trees to increase production of fruits and to protect the environment from the catastrophe of climate change.
“As the prices of all species of fruits are very costly, there is no alternative to producing local and indigenous fruits in large scale to meet the growing demand of nutrition of the people”, they said.
They said this in an inaugural function of a three-day fruit bearing tree fair-2017 organized by Department of Agriculture Extension, Sundarganj upazila at upazila parishad compound on Sunday afternoon.
Local lawmaker Golam Mostafa Ahmed addressed the function and formally inaugurated the fair as the chief guest while UNO SM Golam Kibria presided over the function.
The inaugural ceremony was also addresseds among others, by upazila vice chairman Abu Solaiman Saza, officer in charge of Sundarganj Thana Atiar Rahman and general secretary of Sundarganj poura Awami League Jahangir Alam.
Terming the trees as inseparable part of life and livelihood and also the best friends of the people, the chief guest urged all to plant fruit bearing trees side by side with planting timber and medicinal ones and nurture those like their own children for maintaining ecological balance of the country.
Later, the chief guest formally distributed the saplings of different fruit bearing trees to the students of the schools free of cost and went round different stalls of the fair.
