NCT goes into operation from today

After eight years of its construction in 2007, the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port is going into operation from October 17.
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan will officially inaugurate the terminal on today.
Of the five berths of the terminal, one has been reserved for the port authority. Chittagong Port Authority has appointed private operator to run rest of the berths of the terminal.
Port sources said, an inaugural ceremony will be held at the second berth of the NCT on Saturday, with Chittagong Port Chairman Rear Admiral Nizamuddin in the chair.
Chittagong City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Local MP MA Latif, Terminal Operator Saif Powertech, leaders of port users and businessmen will also attend the programme.
Though the terminal had been constructed eight years ago, unfortunately it could not go into operation. After the terminal goes into full-fledged operation, capability of the port will be double. Alongside gearing up of the port activities, growth will also increase, they said.
The New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) was constructed at a cost of taka 737 crore.
