National Board of Revenue (NBR) will organise ‘Halkhata Day’ marking Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year.
“As April 14 is a public holiday, the NBR will begin its Bengali New Year celebration programme the next day (April 15),” NBR Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told journalists at his office on Tuesday.
NBR is going to organize ‘Halkhata Day’ for the second time as it first observed day last year on the occasion of ‘Choitra Sangkranti’, a day before the first day of Bengali New Year.
Like last year, the NBR will consider offering incentives to the taxpayers who will pay their dues on that day.
He said NBR will distribute books as gifts to the taxpayers on April 15. All income tax, VAT and customs officers have been given necessary instructions to observe the day as NBR wants to encourage taxpayers to clear their outstanding revenue in a festive atmosphere.
Not only the taxpayers, the stakeholders, local personalities and businesspeople will be invited to the ‘Halkhata’ programme.
Income tax, VAT and customs offices will be decorated and arch will be erected there and guests will be entertained with traditional sweet items such as ‘moa, murki and batasa’.
