NBR to earn Tk 600 cr revenue from Tax Fair in Chattogram

The National Board of Revenue (NBR), Chattogram has set a target to earn revenue of over Taka 600 crore from tax fair beginning on Tuesday at GEC convention centre in the city.
NBR Chattogram Chapter is organizing the fair with a view to encouraging people to pay taxes regularly. City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin is expected to inaugurate the fair in the morning of the day.
Commissioner of Appellate Tax Zone and convener of Income Tax fair-18 Motaher Hossain, at a press conference, said the weeklong event would begin through bringing out a rally and holding a procession on the premises of GEC convention centre At the press conference held today at the conference hall of CGO building of Agrabad Tax Zone, Hossain said NBR earned revenue of Taka 529.70 crore from 32,984 tax payers in the last fiscal.
Taxpayers can submit their returns for 2018-2019 in the fair. There will also be facility for the new taxpayer’s e-registration for taxpayer identification numbers (TINs), he said.
There will be sufficient booths to assist people. It will also have separate counters to assist senior, female, and differently disabled persons.
Income Tax Commissioner Harn-ur-Rashid, Nazmul Karim, Lutfur Azim, Mamunur Rahman and member secretary of Income Tax Day-2018 Mofiz Ullah, among others, attended the press conference. The fair will remain open from 10 am to 6pm everyday fromNovember13to 19.
39 highest, long-term taxpayers honoured
BSS from Chattogram adds: The National Board of Revenue (NBR), Chattogram on Monday recognised and honored 39 highest and long-term taxpayers in Chattogram region in a bid to encourage better compliance and boost income tax collection.
A total of 39 taxpayers from five districts in greater Chattogram and Chattogram City Corporation received crests at the reception organized by the revenue authority for fiscal 2017-18.
City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin awarded the top taxpayers with certificates and crests at a ceremony organised by the National Board of Revenue, at the GEC convention center on Monday. “Direct taxes like the income tax play a significant role in the development of the country,” said AJM Nasir Uddin, who handed over the crests.
He said the massive development activities undertaken in the port city and capital were funded by taxes received by the government.
“Tax payment is essential for the development of the country. People cannot live a better life without contributing to the society. Wealth has to be distributed among all, otherwise we cannot ensure peace in the society” Nasir said.
“This is a very good step, it will encourage others to come forward to pay taxes,” said Salahuddin Kasem Khan, managing director of AK Khan & Co Ltd, which secured its name among the top ten taxpayers for the fourth consecutive year.
Convenor of Income Tax Day -2018 Motaher Hossain presided over the function while NBR Board Member Rowshan Ara Akter, Custom Exercise and VAT commissioner Sayed Golam Kibria, President of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mahbubul Alam and senior vice President of Chattogram Woman Chamber of Commerce and Industries Abida Mustafa, Income Tax Commissioners Harn-ur-Rashid, Nazmul Karim, Lutfur Azim, Mamunur Rahman and member secretary of Income Tax Day -2018 Mofiz Ullah, among others, addressed the function.
