The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will have to collect Tk 1,28,000 crore in the next three months (April-June) to achieve annual target of Tk 3,30,000 crore.
The revenue board collected Tk 2,02,547 crore in the first nine months (June-March) period of the current fiscal year (2021-22), according to a provisional data.
In case of actual target of Tk 3,30,000 crore, the tax authority will have to accomplish 38.62 per cent more in the next three months- a task that would be impossible for the taxmen, analysts said.
The data showed that the revenue collection growth was 13.63 per cent during the mentioned period against its average growth of 11.36 per cent during the last five fiscal years.
The customs wing posted the highest 20.54 per cent growth followed by income tax 14.09 per cent and VAT 7.80 per cent, the data said.
In the corresponding period of the last FY, the Customs wing posted 12.15 per cent, VAT 5.61 per cent and income tax 7.90 per cent.
In the last three quarters of the current FY, the NBR earned Tk 65,079 crore from the customs wing which was Tk 53,988 crore during the corresponding period of the last FY. The revenue collection from customs wing is higher than the previous year for increasing the prices of imported goods in international markets.
The Value-Added Tax, the highest revenue source, wing registered Tk 73,810 crore as revenue which was Tk 68,469 crore during the corresponding period of the last fiscal.
Internal trades are booming as the impact of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic reducing gradually, the NBR officials said.
On the other hand, income tax and travel tax wing posted Tk 63,658 crore in the three quarters of the current fiscal year which was Tk 55,798 crore in the previous fiscal year.
NBR officials said that tax collection usually grows in line with the rising consumption of goods, use of services and implementation of development projects.
The fiscal measures also helped boosting the tax revenue collection, they added.
The taxmen’s all-out effort has played important role for the impressive revenue collection growth so far.
The advance tax at import stage of major revenue-generating items was one of the major reasons behind the higher revenue growth, they said.
They also said the revenue collection will be around three lakh crore at the end of the year, if the present continues.
The revenue collection has jumped to Tk 2,61,000 crore in last FY against the target of Tk 3,30,000 crore that later was revised to Tk 3,01,000 crore.
