NBR plans to boost tax collection at source

UNB, Dhaka :Aiming to increase revenue earnings from tax at source, also known as tax deducted at source (TDS), the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has decided to include more sectors under its jurisdiction with the existing 58.The NBR has also decided to create five dedicated tax zones to oversee the TDS for increasing the revenue collection through proper monitoring, as there is no dedicated tax zone for supervising TDS collection.Of the total numbers, four will be set up in the capital while the rest one in the port city of Chittagong.The decision was taken at a board meeting at the NBR held with its chairman M Nojibur Rahman in the chair.NBR will send a letter to the Ministry of Public Administration, seeking permission for the expansion of its tax zones, an NBR senior official told UNB.Currently, there are 31 income tax zones across the country.NBR has formed a 15-member committee to work out a plan for formation of the new five dedicated tax zones for monitoring tax collection at source.
