NBR earns Tk 3.21 cr in Rajshahi tax fair

Income tax of more than Taka 3.21 crore was collected in a weeklong Tax Fair-2015 that concluded formally on Jafar Imam Tennis Complex here on Tuesday evening.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) organised the fair for the fifth consecutive time in the city like other divisional cities to inspire the taxpayers in paying more income tax along with generating new more taxpayers. Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the closing session as chief guest with Dabir Uddin, commissioner of Rajshahi Income Tax Zone, in the chair. Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed, commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Md Shamsuddin and commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Dr Abdul Mannan Shikder also spoke.
According to the officials concerned, this year’s earning is Taka 2.21 crore more than that of the previous year. On the closing day of the fair, the taxpayers’ turnout was
significantly higher than that of the earlier days triggering the submission of return forms and tax payment. Some 2,440 return forms were submitted and 194 of those were new ones. Besides, more than 11,000 taxpayers received different services from the fair. Apart from this, 194 taxpayers have done e-TIN registration in the fair.
In the fair, there were nine stalls opened from 10am to 5pm everyday.

New taxpayers
collected their tax identification numbers (TINs) while the earlier TIN holders submitted their income tax returns at the fair.
Income Tax officials were present at the fair providing advice and suggestions on
income tax, TIN certificates and assist the taxpayers in filling out the Income Tax
Return forms. Janata and Sonali banks set up booths to help the taxpayers in paying
income taxes.
Meanwhile, the Income Tax zone in Rajshahi comprising the districts of Rajshahi,
Naogaon, Natore, Chapainawabganj and Pabna has realized income taxes worth Taka 315
crore in last 2014-15 fiscal year, up by Taka 58 crore than the previous 2013-14 fiscal.
In the zone, income taxes worth more than Taka 5.82 crore were collected during the
fair this season. Some 6,977 return forms were submitted and 359 of those were new
ones.
Besides, more than 30,790 taxpayers received different services from the fair. “We have
set a target to realize taxes worth Taka 410 crore in the current 2015-16 fiscal and we
are hopeful about attaining the target by end of the fiscal,” said Dabir Uddin. Around
18,000 new more taxpayers will be identified in survey during the current fiscal, he
added.
