National Bank Limited (NBL), country’s one of the leading conventional private commercial bank, posted another year of solid returns reporting Tk Tk846 crore operating profit for the year 2015.
The operating profit was highest among the conventional private commercial bank, officials said.
NBL had earned Tk 821.78 crore operating profit in 2014.
“The bank has achieved an operating profit of Tk846 crore in the previous year despite increased competition and adverse investment climate,” a senior NBL official told The New Nation yesterday.
He said, the profit growth was meager but satisfactory if we review the profits of other private banks. NBL has earned operating profit at a time when some of its competitor banks reported a negative profit.
“We worked relentlessly to make the institute profitable. We are happy by the financial performance for 2015,” he added.
Available data showed that operating profit of some private banks went down in 2015 and even some banks reported negative profit growth.
Profits of Mercantile Bank, United Commercial Bank, Prime bank and Dhaka Bank dropped last year due to unfavourable business and investment climate, officials said.
Meanwhile, NCC Bank, Dutch-Bangla Bank, Jamuna Bank, Exim Bank, Shahjalal Bank, Pubali Bank South-East Bank, SIBL, City Bank and Bank Asia reported a higher profit last year from that of the previous year.
In 2015, NCC Bank logged Tk415.85 crore in operating profit, Dutch-Bangla Bank Tk678 crore, Jamuna Bank Tk400 crore, Exim Bank Tk 650 crore, Shahjalal Bank 275 crore, Pubali Bank Tk801 crore, South-East Bank Tk835 crore, SIBL Tk522.21 crore, City Bank Tk 691 crore and Bank Asia Tk 605 crore.
Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL), the pioneer of the country’s Islami Banking, achieved the top position among the private banks last year reporting an operating profit Tk 1,807 crore.
