NBAB wants separate secretariat for judiciary

Leaders of the National Bar Association of Bangladesh (NBAB), a platform of professional lawyers, called for establishing a separate secretariat for the judiciary to ensure its smooth functioning.
They came up with the call at a meeting held in the Olympia Restaurant of Supreme Court Bhaban on Friday.
NBAB also put forward five-point demands to the government to wipe-out corruption from the court
premises, welfare of the lawyers as well as proper functioning of the judiciary.
The meeting was presided over by NBAB’s President Shah Md Khosruzzaman, while its Secretary General Md Sagir Anwar conducted it.  
They also announced a month-long programme titled “Dabi Mash” to be observed at bars across the country.
The five-point demands included keep court premises corruption-free, the process of separation of the judiciary on urgent basis, take steps to deposit one per cent of accumulated court fees to the lawyer’s benevolent fund using the service of elderly lawyers, steps must be taken to handover the power of giving legal aid to the poor taking it from District Judges to the hand of bar associations and unite all lawyers above their personal and party influence for a movement to establish rule of law and independence of judiciary and legal practice.
