UNB, Dhaka :
Shougat Nazbin Khan, a young education advocate from Bangladesh, who was earlier denied UK visa twice, finally got the visa on Tuesday morning.
Nazbin has made her place among the Commonwealth Youth Awards winners from Asia region but her joining the prestigious event had turned uncertain due to the frequent visa refusal. Earlier, British High Commissioner Alison Blake at a function in the city, marking the Commonwealth Day on Monday, said they have decided to provide her visa. Talking to UNB, Nazbin said she got the visa (issued from New Delhi) and is preparing to fly for London on Wednesday morning.
“Though I’ve already missed a number of important events, now I will
at least be able to attend the award-distribution ceremony,” she said. The Commonwealth Youth Awards 2016 for excellence in development work will be handed over to the winners on March 17 in London in recognition of the extraordinary efforts made by young people to enhance democracy and development.
