Navy starts relief operation in cyclone-hit areas

Bangladesh Navy on Tuesday started distributing emergency relief materials among the cyclone affected people at Saint Martin’s Island and Kutubdia areas at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Earlier, two warships of the navy — Samuddra Abhijan and Khadem – cruised to cyclone-hit areas with relief goods, said an ISPR press release.
The relief items include five tons of rice, two tons of pulses, three tons of puffed rice, eight tons of chira (flattened rice), two tons of molasses, 3,000 pieces of candles, 300 kilograms of poly bags, 100 packets of match boxes and 20 tons of pure water.
Besides, two special medical teams with 23 members have been deployed to give health services in the affected areas.
They will provide free health services and medicines free of cost, the release said, adding the relief operation and health services would continue until the situation improves.
