Navy Chief launches LPC and submarine tag boat

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed yesterday launched Large Patrol Craft (LPC) and Submarine Handling Tag Boat for Bangladesh Navy at Khulns Ship Yard (KSY) premises, saying that now the capability of Navy strengthened after handing over it to Naval fleet, says an ISPR press release.
“Khulna Shipyard is playing vital role for country’s security through constructing warships, submarine and other Patrol Craft for Bangladesh Army, Navy and Coast Guard,” he told the ceremony.
Ahmed, also the chairman of KSY directory board, said KSY was a losing concern before 1999 and it turned into profitable after handed over to Bangladesh Navy as per decision of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said the LPC is an ultra modern warship and it will play a vital role for sea shore security, resource collection and fair management.
He, however, said, the government has taken initiative to build another modern Shipyard near Payra Port. He also urged officers and employees of KSY to work sicerely for keeping speedy works and goodwill of KSY.
Parliament members of Bagerhat-3 and Khulna-2 constituencies Talukder Abdul Khaleque and Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Assistant chief of Bangladesh Navy Rear Admiral M Shafiul Azam, addressed as special guests.
