Nat’l Structural Plan for sustainable urban dev stressed

Urban Planners on Saturday demanded formulation of the ‘National Structural Plan’ immediately to secure agricultural lands, water bodies and environment for planned urban development in the country.
They have suggested implementation of urban designs for planned urban growth, decentralizing urban development to the medium and small cities to reduce pressure on mega cities.
Besides, they have suggested to make citizens part of the development process by making the City wards a centre of development for sustainability.
They have also emphasised on raising human resources with adequate technological knowledge and skill.
All these were said in a Seminar organised by Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP) observing the ‘World Urban Planning Day 2017’ at its head office in the city.
Rajuk Chairman Md Abdur Rahman was the Chief Guest in the seminar while President of Municipal Association of Bangladesh (MAB) Md. Abdul Baten and the Founder President of BIP Planner Dr. Golam Rahman were present as Special Guests in the seminar.
Joint Secretary of BIP Dr Adil Mohammad Khan and Chairperson of Department of Architecture, BRAC University Adnan Zillur Morshed presented two key-note papers in the seminar.
In the key note presentations, they have emphasised on people’s incorporation with planning and development process to make planning effective and sustainable.
