Business Desk :
The four initiatives taken to introduce insurance for the unemployed workers have made very little progress and have missed almost all the targets, a study finds.
The government adopted the National Social Security Strategy (NSSS) in 2015 and took the initiatives to conduct a study and develop a plan for the strategy in 2018 and introducing the National Social Insurance Scheme on a pilot basis in January 2019. One of the initiatives was taken for formulating the insurance scheme law in January 2020 and rolling out the nationwide scheme in January 2021.
“All these targets have been missed,” according to the study on ‘Towards improved unemployment protection in Bangladesh.’
MA Abdur Razzaque, Chairman of the Research and Policy Integration for Development, conducted the study. Razzaque shared the findings of the study today at an event organised by the International Labour Organisation in collaboration with the European Union at the Radisson Hotel in Dhaka.
