Nat’l ICT Day today

The National ICT Day is going to be observed for the first time in the country on Tuesday.
The government has chalked out different programmes to observe the day, said Public Relation Officer of ICT Division Abu Nasher on Monday.
The observance of the ICT day will be started with placing floral wreath on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the city’s Dhanmondi area at 7:30 am.
Among other programmes, bringing out colourful procession at 8 am from the premise of National Museum at Shahbagh to Central Shaheed Minar, arranging discussion and ceremony of National ICT Award 2017 at 3pm at Bangabandhu
International Conference Centre and organising ‘Concert for ICT’ at 5:30pm at Mall Chattar on the Dhaka University campus.
State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak will inaugurate the procession as the chief guest, while ICT Division Secretary Subir Kishore Choudhury and Dhaka University (DU) Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman will be present as special guests.
At the discussion meeting to be presided over by Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry Imran Ahmad will address.
At the concert on DU campus, different popular singers including James will perform.
On November 27 last, the cabinet approved a proposal to observe December 12 as the National ICT Day to accept the concept of Digital Bangladesh at the state-level and recognise the country’s advancement in information and communication technology sector.
The December 12 has been chosen to be observed as the National ICT Day as on that day in 2008 Awami League formally introduced the concept of ‘Digital Bangladesh’ in its election manifesto.
