The ARK Group 35th Men’s and 12th Women’s National Weightlifting championship begins tomorrow (Wednesday) at National Sports Council (NSC) gymnasium in the city.
A total of 75 weightlifters from districts, services teams and educational institutions from across the country are taking part in the three-day competition which will be held in 18 weight categories — nine of men’s and nine of women’s.
The men’s categories are 50, 56, 62, 69, 77, 85, 94, 105 and 105+ while the women’s categories are 40, 44, 48, 53, 58, 63, 69 and 75+.
Each weight categories of the competition will be given gold, silver, bronze medal in addition of cash award.
Besides, the best weightlifter of both men’s and women’s division will be given cash award of Taka 5,000.
Tournament sponsor ARK Group will provide the entire budget of Taka 17 lakh to run the championship.
In this regards, a press conference was held on Monday at the conference room of NSC to provide all the details of the meet.
