National Professor Anisuzzaman laid to rest

National Professor Anisuzzaman has been laid to eternal rest at Azimpur graveyard in Dhaka.
Volunteers of Al-Markazul Islami, an organization who performs the final rites for those dying of Covid-19, buried the professor around 10:35am on Friday after completing all formalities.
Before the burial, the Al-Markazul Islami held the namaz-e-janaza of Prof Anisuzzaman at 10:23am.
He was also given a guard of honour by a team of Bangladesh Police.
Al-Markazul Islami acting chairman Hamza Shahidul Islam told media that the organization received the body of the professor from Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the morning, strictly following the health guidelines.
He said the body was brought to the graveyard via specialized ambulance around 9:30am in a coffin draped with the national flag. One of the most pre-eminent educators in Bangladesh, Prof Anisuzzaman breathed his last at the CMH in Dhaka on Thursday. A test later showed that he had been infected with the novel coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.
The 83-year-old was admitted to the Universal Cardiac Hospital in Dhaka on April 27 with several complications, before he was moved to the CMH on May 2.
