Mohammad Yunus Ali, Manikganj :
The ancestral homestead at Teota village in Shibalaya upazila, the birthplace of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s wife Pramila, is being evicted. A class of local people are involved in misappropriation of real estate by creating fake documents. Asalata Sen Pramila’s father and uncle have been accused of usurping 53 decimal of the land. A written application has been made to various departments drawing the attention of the Prime Minister himself on the allegation of such forgery.
It is alleged that Basanta Kumar Sen, father of Asalta Sen Pramila, wife of the national poet, was the naib of Teota zamindar. He died in 1918. After the death of her father Basanta Sen, Premila passed 5th class in Teota Primary School established by the then Zamindar Barrister Kiran Shankar Roy Chowdhury and moved to Comilla with her uncle Indra Sen. Indra Kumar Sen was a court inspector in Comilla in the then state of Tripura.
It may be mentioned that Kiran Shankar Roy, one of the leading zamindars of the anti-British movement, invited him to Teota in 1922, the year after Nazrul wrote the poem ‘Bidrahi’ (Rebel). The poet came here for the first time and composed many poems and songs. While in Comilla, Nazrul met Indra Sen’s son Birendra Sen and became close to Premila. In 1928, Nazrul’s wife came to visit Teota.
On this occasion, some local persons have made fake documents of Basant and Indra Sen’s houses and are occupying them illegally. Although the leaders of some of the organizations practicing Nazrul Sahitya informed the concerned departmental officials about this in time, no result was achieved. They have been trying to occupy the land in various ways.
When Sampriti tried to build houses on these occupied lands, the locals and the leaders of Nazrul Premi organization lodged a written complaint.
Miyazan Kabir, a prominent writer and official of Nazrul Pramila Parishad, a literary-based organization, said that although Pramila’s birth was recorded in the names of people around Vita, they did not have any actual documents in it. As a result, Pramila, the wife of the national poet, daughter of the Sen family, and her heirs have been deprived of this property.
In addition, various organizations have been demanding for more than a decade for the construction with government facilities and salvation of the land in memory of the national poet and Pramila. About 10 acres of land of Teota Zamindar house was acquired by the Department of Archeology for 6 years..
