National Mourning Day observes in Khulna

Like other parts of the country, National Mourning Day as well as 45th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed on August 15 , 2020 in Khulna city and at nine upazilas of Khulna district maintaining social distance during the ongoing Corona-virus pandemic.
Marking the day, different government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, socio -cultural and voluntary organisations and educational institutions arranged several programs .
The programs included hoisting the National flag at half-mast atop all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings placing floral wreaths on the monument of Bangabandhu, discussion meetings, distribution of leaflets, posters and screening of film show on life and works of Bangabandhu and special Doa Mahfils in all religious institutions.
According to a Circular of Khulna PID issued by Deputy Director M Javed Iqbal on Friday, at least three people in each government, semi-government or organisations attended while placing wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu on the Khulna Betar premises.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, it was decided to cancel the Mourning rally while virtual discussion and Doa Mahfil were held this year through online, as per circular of PID.
Posters were set up at all educational institutions and different establishments and life sketches of Bangabandhu and mourning related publicity were held digitally throughout the Mourning month .
Besides, competitions on painting, essay writing, Hamd and Naat and recitation of poems, discussions on life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and national history were arranged in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner ( DC ) and other places.
Prize distribution ceremony of essay, art, Hamd, Naat and poem recitation competitions and cheques distribution by the Directorate of Youth Development among the freedom fighters were held at the same places maintaining all health guidelines.
Special munajat were offered after Zohr prayers at all mosques while prayers were offered at temples, churches and pagodas also for salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members.
Khulna District Information Office, Islamic Foundation, Khulna Betar, Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna Press Club and other organisations observed the same programs separately marking the day maintaining all kinds of health directives.
Local units of Bangladesh Awami League and its front-organisations and different other political parties observed various programs marking the National Mourning Day.
The city and district units of Awami League and its front organisations arranged various programmes to mark the day .
The programs also included hoisting of the National flag, party flags and black flags at half-mast at all the party offices in the city and district, wearing of black badges, placing wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu, distribution of food among the distressed people, Doa mahfil and discussion on life and works of Bangabandhu.
The upazila administrations also observed the day through similar programmes in the district while Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Khulna District Police administrations arranged effective measures to keep okay the law and order situation in the city and at nine upazila areas of the district.
