National Mourning Day observed

The 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day was celebrated in the city and district yesterday .
 People of all strata paid rich tributes to Bangabandhu, architect of the independent Bangladesh who along his with his family members were brutally murdered on August 15, 1975.
Apart from the Chittagong city, north and south district units of Awami League (AL) and its front organizations, scores of socio-cultural , literary organizations, trade unions, district administration, all educational institution and professional bodies organized elaborate programmers to mark the day. Leaders and workers of AL and its front organizations and professional bodies will wear black badges throughout the day.
The day’s programs include hoisting of the national and black flags at half-mast atop all party offices, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, Quran-khwani, Milad Mahfil, discussion meetings, recitation, essay and quiz competitions on the life and works of Bangabandhu, screening of films, playing of the historic March 7 speeches of Bangabandhu in 41 wards of the city corporation, blood donation and distribution of foods among the destitute.
A “Chittagognian traditional Mezban” arranged for nearly 40 thousand people at Bangabandhu’s mazar, Tungipara of Gopalgonj district on the occasion. Former Chittagong City Mayor and President of Chittagong City AL ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury has been organizing the mezban since last 26 years has already left Chittagong for Tungipara accompanied by a large numbers of leaders and activists.
The programs of Chittagong District Administration’ include Milad Mahfil, Khatme Quran, special prayers at mosques and discussion on the life and works of Bangabandhu at Shisu Academy, essay competition and recitation.
Doa, Milad Mahfils and special prayers held at different mosques and other places of worships in the city and districts seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members.The mourning programs were also arranged at different upazilas of the district. Among the upazilas, the largest feeding programs and blood donation program was arranged at upazila square yesterday, our Raozan correspondent sources said.

Meanwhile Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology observed the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu yesterday at the university campus with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rafiqul Islam in the chair.
 The day-long program includes hoisting of national and party flags , wearing black badges, discussion meeting on Bangabandhu and liberation war .
At end of the program, Doa Mahfil was held praying salvation of the departed soul of the martyrs of 15th august.
