National Mourning Day observed

The people of the country and missions abroad observed the National Mourning Day yesterday to mark the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Leaders and activists of different socio-cultural and political organizations including the Awami League began observing the Day paying homage to Bangabandhu on Monday morning.
As part of the programme, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina first paid homage to Bangabandhu by garlanding the portrait of Father of the Nation at 6:30am. Members of a smartly turned out contingent of the armed forces gave guard of honour, the bugle played the last post. Then the Prime Minister offered Fateha and took part in Munajat.
Later, Sheikh Hasian as the party chief along with cabinet members and Awami League central leaders paid homage to Bangabandhu.
Sheikh Hasina went inside the historic house at Dhanmondi 32 and visited the memorials of his father, where she stayed there for half an hour.
Meanwhile, the prime minister placed floral wreaths at the graves of the martyrs of August 15 including her mother, brothers and wives of his brothers at Banani at 8:30am. The prime minister offered Fateha and took part in Munajat.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation by placing wreaths at his mausoleum at Gopalganj’s Tungipara.
After placing the wreath, she stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the architect of the independence, who was brutally killed by
some disgruntled army men on the dreadful night of August 15, 1975 along with most of his family members.
President M Abdul Hamid hosted a Darud and Doa mahfil at Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban after Maghrib prayers marking the Day.
A special Munajat was also offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and other family members.
Doa was offered seeking peace and prosperity of Bangladesh, Muslim Ummah and the world.
Besides, Qurankhwani and doa mahfil were also held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on the occasion of the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation and the National Mourning Day.
As part of the day, special prayers and doa were offered at all mosques in the country after Zhur prayers seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members martyred on this day in 1975.
However, people flooded the street in front of Bangabandhu Museum at city’s Dhanmondi on Monday morning marking the day.
People of all strata including male, female, different school and college students, children and adolescents gathered on the street at Dhanmondi Road no-32 within 6:00am wearing black badge on their chest and carrying black banners in their hands.
All the people recalled Father of the Nation and showed respect to him by placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Bangabandhu Museum was kept open for the people after the prime minister left the place.
Dhaka North and South City units of Awami League, Awami Jubo League, Awami Swechasebak League, Mahila Awami League, Jubo Mahila League, Jatiya Sramik League, Bangladesh Krishak League, Bangladesh Chatra League, Tanti League, Chatra League Dhaka University unit, also paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi.
Various political parties and organizations including Prime Minister’s Office, Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Sher-e Bangla Agriculture University, Jagannath University, University Grants Commission (UGC), National University, Open University, wounded freedom fighters martyrdom family, National Human Rights Commission, Supreme Court Lawyers Association, Bangladesh Rural Development Board(BRDB), Mahila Sramik League, Engineers Institution, Department of Youths, Department of Immigration and Passport, Islamic Foundation, Film Archive, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, Sector Commanders Forum, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Muijb Parishad, Cultural Affairs Ministry, Bangla Academy, Department of Public Libraries, National Museum, Shishu Academy, Khelaghar, Bangladesh Betar, National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMCO), Betar Employees Welfare Association, Dhaka Lawyers Association, Employees of Information Ministry, Jatiya Mahila Sangstha, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Jatiya Kabita Parishad, Jatiya GitiKobi Parishad, Jubo Union, Chatra Union, Sheikh Russel Shishu Sangsad, Bangladesh Bank, Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Krishi Bank, Agrani Bank, Rupali Bank, Tungipara Samity Dhaka, Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital, Bangabandhu Krishibid Parishad, Abdus Samad Azad Foundation, Sarak Paribahan Malik-Sramik Oikya Parishad, Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu-Kishor Parishad, Amra Muktijoddar Santan and Telecommunication Sramik Union also paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
