Language hero AKM Shamsuzzoha Smrity 31st National Junior Athletic competition begins tomorrow (Friday) at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city.
Sponsored by Bangladesh Athletic Federation (BAF), State Minister for Youth and Sports Sri Biren Sikder, MP, is expected to inaugurate the two-day meet as the chief guest at 9 am.
AKM Shamim Osman, lawmaker of Narayanganj-4 constitution, will present as special guest during the opening ceremony.
Some 500 boys’ and girls’ athletes from across the country are expected to participate in the meet.
Freedom fighter, renowned businessman and social worker of Narayanganj AKM Selim Osman, MP, has come forward to sponsor the competition with a sum of Taka five lakh out of the approximate competition budget of Taka 10 lakh.
AKM Shamim Osman, who was present at the press conference, said he is very happy as he was given opportunity by the BHF to do something for the development of athletic.
Shamim, who has deep passion in sports, said he would try to continue his all out support to patron the competitions organized by BFA in future and hoped to build a stadium only for athletic outside in Dhaka taking cooperation of concern ministry.
AKM Oyan Osman, son of Shamim Osman, BAF president ASM Ali Kabir, general secretary Ibrahim Changis, joint secretary M Tofajjol Hossain, treasurer Mijanur Rahman were present, among others, on the occasion.
