The National Food Safety Day-2022 will be observed today across the country with a vow to ensuring safe food for all in a befitting manner.
This year’s theme of the day is ‘Susastho er Mulniti, Nirapod Khaddo O Susastho Bidhi’.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion, urging all to ensure safe food to save life and health and also wished all concerned a success for overall programmes taken on this occasion, reports BSS.
In his message, the President said there is no substitute for safe and nutritious food to ensure public health as eating unsafe food can lead to serious health risks including cancer, kidney disease and disability.
Therefore, it is very important to ensure proper implementation of the law and speed up public awareness activities on safe food in coordination with all concerned agencies, he said.
Bangladesh Food Safety Authority has been conducting activities in coordination with all the concerned organizations by making 13 regulations related to safe food and conducting regular food monitoring campaigns, he added.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reiterated her government’s commitment to safeguard the health of the people.
“The greatest Bengali of all time, Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman presented us with a constitution in just 9 months after the War of Liberation, in which he emphasized the basic issues such as food, clothing, shelter, medical care and education. He gave the most importance to food in there,” the premier added.
Bangabandhu dreamt of building a golden Bangladesh through agri-revolution, she said, adding that Bangladesh Awami League’s ‘Vision-2021’ has been realized in the light of that dream.
She further said that the implementation of ‘Vision 2041’ is also moving forward at a rapid pace.
“Our government has been working tirelessly to ensure food security for all as well as safe food for the people,” she said.
In order to ensure safe food, the government has enacted the Food Safety Act, 2013 and established Bangladesh Food Safety Authority in 2015.
Since its inception, the Food Safety Authority has been successfully advancing various public awareness programmes, conducting anti-adulteration and anti-pollution campaigns, conducting scientific research activities and coordinating with local and foreign organizations, she continued.
