The National Film Day-2018 will be observed today in a befitting manner under the auspices of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) and the National Film Observance Committee. To mark the day, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) and the National Film Observance Committee have jointly undertaken an elaborate programme to observe the National Film Day-2018 at the BFDC. In separate messages on the eve of National Film Day, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called for making film a major weapon to root out terrorism and militancy to build a non communal society imbued with the spirit of Liberation War.
They greeted all artistes, technicians, directors, producers and others concerned on the occasion of the National Film Day-2018. They recalled that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, understanding the impact of films on the society, tabled a bill in the provincial assembly of erstwhile East Pakistan for the formation of Film Development Corporation (FDC) on April 3, 1957 as the then Industries and Commerce Minister and in continuation to that FDC was established. The President, in his message, said film is a powerful medium and its role is immense in creating awareness and development of society. He called for upholding the history of Independence Movement and Liberation War to infuse the spirit of Liberation War into the youths for the sake of the nation.
The President urged the filmmakers and other concerned to produce films in congruity with the country’s national history, heritage and culture which will foster humanitarian qualities side by side with entertainment. Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said the Awami League government has implemented massive programmes for the development of film industry in the last nine years.
She said that her government has increased the amount of donation for making quality films.
The Prime Minister said that the government is contemplating to set up modern and digital cinema halls. Construction of Bangabandhu Film City on 105 acres of land at Kabirpur in Gazipur district is underway, she added. She urged filmmakers to uphold the spirit of Liberation War and the native culture through producing realistic movies and expressed her hope that the country’s films will play more effective roles against terrorism and militancy and communalism.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu will inaugurate the programme of the National Film Day as the chief guest at 9.30am today while State Minister for Information Tarana Halim will attend as the special guest. Veteran actor Hasan Imam will preside over the programme. Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Information Ministry AKM Rahmat Ullah, its member Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh, MP, and Secretary of the Information Ministry Abdul Malek, among others, will be present at the function.
April 3 is being observed as National Film Day every year since 2012. As part of the programme, a seminar titled “The current situation of film industry of Bangladesh and find out ways to overcome the problems” will be held at 3pm on April 3 at the eight No. shooting floor of BFDC. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed will attend the seminar as the chief guest while Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, State Minister for Information Tarana Halim and Information Secretary Abdul Malek will be present as special guests.
