National Athletics: Imranur, Sumaiya fastest man, woman

England-born Imranur Rahman of Bangladesh Army became the fastest man of the country on Monday, while Sumaiya Dewan of BKSP became the fastest woman of the country on the same day. Imranur Rahman took part in the 100-metre sprint of the Shaheed Sheikh Kamal 45th National Athletics Championship at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the city’s Banani. He broke the previous record clocking 10.50 seconds defeating the reigning winner Ismail. Ismail finished third.
Sumaiya Dewan of BKSP won the 100-metre sprint beating the reigning winner Shirin Akhter. Sumaiya Dewan took 12.30 seconds to finish the race beating Shirin Akhter, who took 12.36 second to finish the race.
It may be mentioned that Mahbubur had the previous record in the 100-metre sprint clocking 10.54 seconds in the early nineties.
Bangladesh Athletics Federation has arranged the athletics meet.
