The Cotton Group 30th National Age Group Swimming & Diving Competition begins tomorrow. The Swimming Competition will be held at the Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex in Mirpur while the Diving Competition will be taken place at the Bangladesh Army Diving Pool.
The five age groups of swimming competition are: Under-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17, 18-20.
A total of 378 boys and 163 girls from different 15 district sports associations, 34 swimming clubs, BKSP, Bangladesh Ansar & VDP, one education board will take part in the competition.
To mark the swimming meet, a press conference was held at the Dutch-Bangla Bank Auditorium of Bangladesh Olympic Association Bhaban on Saturday.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Swimming Federation Md Rafiz Uddin Rafiz, Joint-Secretary of the Federation MB Saif, Vice-Chairman of Cotton Group Abdur Rahman, Treasurer of the Federation Rezaul Hossain Badshah were present at the conference.
The budget of the competition has been estimated at Tk 18,00,000 while Cotton Group, the sponsor of the meet has given Tk 13,00,000 to Bangladesh Swimming Federation and the Federation will bear rest of the expenditure from its own fund.
The winners of the swimming competition will be awarded gold, silver and bronze respectively. Besides, the champions and the runners-up of the team events will be awarded with the trophies respectively.
President of Bangladesh Swimming Federation and Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral M Farid Habib, ndc, psc will inaugurate the three-day long swimming competition tomorrow as the chief guest while Chairman of the Cotton Group Shaheen Mahmud will be with him as the special guest.
Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy, MP will distribute the prizes among the winners as the chief guest on September 2 while Secretary of National Sports Council Shivnath Roy and Managing Director of Cotton Group Solaiman Khan Majlish will be present with him as special guests.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder, MP will be the chief guest on the concluding day (September 3) while Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP, Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Banazir Ahmed BPM (bar) and Chairman of the Cotton Group Shaheen Mahmud will be with him as special guests.
