BSS, Dhaka :
Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, said that Bangladesh was in the era of constituency-building for digitization.
Sheikh Hasina would be remembered by time for her contribution to build up a digitized society, he added.
The minister said this on Sunday while speaking as the chief guest at a function organized by Telecom Club of the East-West University.
Chaired by chairman of the Trustee Board of the university and former governor of Bangladesh Bank, Dr Farashuddin Ahmed, others who spoke at the function included the university’s pro-vice chancellor, Dr Sikander Hayat Khan, chairman of electronic and communication department of the university, Dr Gurudash Mondol and director, human resources, Grameen Phone, Kazi Mohammad Shahed.
The information minister said that by using information and communication technology it was possible to eliminate poverty, social disparity, gender disparity and natural disasters. He said that there was no alternative to using digital technology. Bereft of a minimum knowledge of ICT it would be difficult to get a government job in future, he said.
The minister said Sheikh Hasina had opened the windows of information technology. Some insects would also enter but there would be no going back. But it was important to gather knowledge of sustainable development, green development and digital development to survive, he added.
He said ” Bangabandhu gave the mantle of freedom to the nation. But we have stumbled repeatedly in the last 42 years. Repeated intervention by military and militant forces had stunted it. We have fallen behind in the relay race.”
Sheikh Hasina’s government was trying to clear the accumulated mess of the past. One cannot progress without clearing it. Hyacinth was pretty but nobody exhibits it in a flower vase, the minster said. “Militancy and communalism were like hyacinth. They have to be uprooted,” the minister said.
