Nasrul for installing 7 lakh prepaid meters

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid yesterday directed the officials of Power Development Board (PDB) to install as many as seven lakh prepaid meters in port city by March 2018 next.
The state minister also said the entire power distribution system of the country would be brought under prepaid metering system by 2021. The state minister made the directive while inaugurating Prepaid Metering Vending Station of four supply and distributing divisions in the city.
The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources organised the programme at PDB’s Chittagong office in Agrabad.
Addressing the function, Nasrul Hamid said ensuring uninterrupted power supply and reaching bill to consumers at the end of the month are the biggest challenges for the Power Ministry. Appreciating the move for introducing prepaid metering system, the minister said this would play a vital role in reducing the sufferings of consumers.
“Prepaid meters will help increase the revenue of the government as well,” he said, adding that this was a turning point to improve services towards consumers.
Nasrul Hamid said the country had come out of load shedding hazard. “Now, our concentration is on improving the customers’ service,” he added. Chief Engineer of Chittagong PDB Provir Kumer Sen presided over the function. Secretary to the Ministry for Power and Energy Dr Ahmed Kaikause and senior officials of the PDB Chittagong region, among others, addressed the function.
