A magnificent unbeaten century by Nasir Hossain enabled Bangladesh under-13 team to record their second successive victories in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2017 tournament beating Nepal by 83 runs in their second match held on Tuesday at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.
Chasing a winning target of 258 runs set by Bangladesh, Sri Lanka found the chase stiff losing wicket in regular intervals and finally dismissed at 174 in 42.3 overs.
Nepal lost their three top order batsmen inside 16 runs, though fourth wicket partnership of 98 between Dipendra Singh Airee and Dilip Nath kept Nepal in sight of their target. When partnership was broken by Rahatul Ferdous sending back to Dilip Nath for 41 runs, Nepal lost wickets in regular intervals and were out of the contest.
Singh Airee was the top scorer in the Nepalese dilapidated innings as he played a patient 56 off 85 balls laced with six boundaries.
Besides, Binod Bhandari was a notable contributor for Nepal with 33 runs.
Rahatul Fedous, the wrecker-in chief as he grabbed four Nepal’s wickets conceding 45 runs. He was well supported by Mohammad Saifuddin who claimed three wickets giving away 22 runs.
Besides, Abul Hasan bagged two wickets for 40 runs. Earlier, a magnificent unbeaten ton from Nasir Hossain steered Bangladesh to pile up a challenging total of 257 for 9 from their allotted 50 overs, after the host were put to bat first by Nepal.
The hosts faced early batting jolt as they found themselves in trouble with wickets falling from the first over and in the fifth over, Bangladesh were three down for 15 in the scoreboard.
However, the fifth wicket stand of 78 between Nasir and Mominul Haque stopped the rot but Nepal kept taking wickets at regular intervals after their stand and pegged back Bangladesh.
When Bangladesh were 175 for 8 after Rahatul Ferdous Javed was sent back for four, Nasir and Abul Hasan Raju began the counter attack and the ninth wicket partnership of 76 in 55 balls changed the scenario of the innings, and allowed Bangladesh to post a competitive total in the end.
Nasir was not out on 109 from 115 balls, and he struck 12 fours and two sixes in his responsible knock. Mominul Haque contributed 61 from 78 balls laced with seven fours to his name. Abul made 29 handy runs late in the innings.
Avinash Karn was the pick of Nepalese bowler as he grabbed three wickets for 46 runs in eight overs. He was well supported by Sandeep Lamichhane who bagged two wickets giving away 41 runs in 10 overs.
Bangladesh will play their next match against Pakistan on Thursday (March 30) at the same venue.
Earlier, Bangladesh beat Hong Kong by eight-wicket in their tournament opening match.
