The Women and Children Repression and Prevention Tribunal-9 of Dhaka yesterday framed charges against three people, including Nasir U Mahmud, former President of Uttara Club Limited in an attempt to rape and murder case filed by film actress Pori Moni.
The other accused people are Nasir’s accomplices Tuhin Siddiqui Omi and Shah Shahidul Alam.
The three accused are at present on bail. They pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Judge Md Hemayet Uddin of the court read out the charges to them.
Earlier, the court dismissed three separate petitions submitted earlier for discharging them from the charges in the case. The judge fixed August 1to start trial of the case.
On September 6 last year, Mohammad Kamal Hossain, Inspector (Investigation) of Savar Model Police Station and also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
Pori Moni filed the attempt to rape and murder case against Nasir, who is also a real estate businessman and presidium member of the Jatiya Party, Omi and four unidentified people on June 14 last year.
A team of detectives carried out raid at a house in Uttara Sector-1of the capital and arrested Nasir and Omi the same day. They were also shown arrested in another case filed with the Airport Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
